Hate crimes and discrimination

The penalty for hate crimes is based on the motivation for the crime rather than on the crime itself. A murderer is “more” guilty of murder, if he killed someone because they are black, white, or oriental than if he had killed that same person for another reason. The penalty is greater because some mistakenly believe that a stronger punishment is going to stop ethnically related crimes.

This is hogwash and blatant discrimination. The first problem is that no one absolutely knows what motivates another person to commit a crime. To say that a crime is a hate crime just because two different ethnic groups are involved is tantamount to reading minds…an impossibility for most juries.

Secondly, why should the murder of one person because of ethnicity be considered worse than the murder of another because of envy or greed, or any other motive? If your loved one is murdered, nothing will bring that person back…..not even if the murderer or murderess is sentenced to a longer time in prison. One man’s life should not be worth more than another’s.

Thirdly, such punishments are nothing more than politicians fawning at the feet of one minority or another. How many times do you read the papers and find that an African American has murdered a white person and will be punished more severely because the murderer commited the crime because the victim was white? It virtually never happens that way. Almost always it is a white person accused of a hate crime against a person of a different racial background.

So, let’s be honest with each other. All of us have to work toward harmony so the United States can continue to be the world’s melting pot. But, hate crimes are a divisive element because they create a special category for some people. And, if some people’s lives are worth more than others, there is disharmony, not union.

Politicians must stop creating special groups of people, even if they are victims, just to demonstrate how much they empathize with a given minority. For once, let’s try to promote the concept that we are all created equal and anyone who injures one of us, injures us all. A murderer is a murderer is a murderer, regardless of who the victim is!

Politics and War

Assumptions:
For the majority of Americans:

War is an intensely serious business with soldiers being killed, wounded, or traumatized.

War is hell for the soldiers’ families who are caught in a waiting mode where they do not know if their loved ones will survive, return, or return harmed.

War is a losing proposition for anyone caught in the crossfire.

War is an expensive process for those of us paying taxes to fund it.

The result? Heart Break for all of us who see our Nation’s Best suffer to create Democracy throughout the world and yet, great pride to see the Iraquis begin to work toward Peace in their land and time…thanks to our efforts.

Assumptions based on actions and words:
For the Democrats:

War is a political “toy” to be used when, how, and in as many ways as it helps their political careers.
How many Democrats tried to create a losing atmosphere in Iraq merely in order to “beat” President Bush?
How many Democrats refused to fund the surge which even now is improving conditions in Iraq?
How many Democrats are using the war as a club against their competitors.

The answer? Too many!

The solution is obvious. Forget the Defeatists in the Democratic Party and Support the Troops.

Fundamentally Flawed Thinking

It has been all over the news about the NY Governor trying to get legislation passed to allow illegal aliens the right to a license, so I thought I’d say a few words about it. First of all, this is stupid. Driving is not a right, it is a privilege. Secondly, if he admits that illegal wrongdoings are going on, then why is he not under fire for 1 million illegal drivers? Not even the fact that they are illegal aliens, the fact that they drive illegally.

This would be the same things as giving people who say, drive under the influence, a special license so they are no longer breaking the law.

The fundamental flaw to all these laws that the sympathizers trying to pass is the root of the question. It is illegal to be in the USA without correctly going through the immigration process. So why are they trying to create new laws, when they should be enforcing the old and existing laws?

Simple, they want their vote. They also want to appear as the person who succeeded in melting America together, when in reality, they are separating it more and more.

Mr. Knowledge asks, “Can I get a special license to be Judge, Jury and Executioner on illegals?”
